Dallas, Texas — Medical City Healthcare has been recognized as among the American Red Cross’ leading blood collection partners in Texas for 2025, contributing more red blood cell units than any other partner for the American Red Cross North Texas Region.

Medical City Healthcare hospitals together collected 1,005 red blood cell units in 2025, 52 more units than they contributed the previous year. One donation can help save up to three lives, meaning the health system’s collections could benefit more than 3,000 patients.

“We are incredibly proud of our colleagues, hospital teams and dedicated community blood donors for stepping up in such a meaningful way,” says Allen Harrison, president of Medical City Healthcare. “This is a powerful example of our dedication to the communities we serve. Every unit donated represents hope for a patient in need, and we are honored to play a role in strengthening the community’s blood supply.”

This recognition for Medical City Healthcare comes during National Blood Donor Month, observed annually in January. It’s a time dedicated to honoring blood donors and raising awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations. Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. And winter often brings challenges that reduce blood donor turnout, including seasonal illnesses and severe weather events such as Winter Storm Fern, which disrupt blood drives even as patient needs remain steady.

“The need for blood never stops,” says Brian Moeschler, regional donor services executive for the American Red Cross. “Sickle cell patients, patients with cancer and new mothers who experience complications during childbirth all rely on safe, lifesaving blood. That’s why we’re asking donors to sign up and give blood at RedCrossBlood.org.”

These Medical City Healthcare hospitals have upcoming blood drives to help reduce winter blood shortages. Healthy donors over the age of 16 can sign up for blood drives at the locations and times below.

The American Red Cross North Texas Region serves more than 11 million people in 121 counties and is made up of five local chapters: DFW Metro East, DFW Metro West, Texas Panhandle Plains, East Texas and Texas Big Country. The American Red Cross reports that it is currently facing a severe blood shortage, which is especially serious for platelets and type O, A negative and B negative blood. Eligible donors can use the Red Cross Blood Donor app, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to schedule a blood donation appointment.
