North Richland Hills, Texas — Spine patients at Medical City North Hills may benefit from a new robotic platform designed to provide a more personalized approach to spinal surgery.

This innovative technology allows for preoperative imaging to be uploaded into a robot-linked system to help plan out the complete procedure in advance, even before a patient commits to surgery. If a patient and physician together decide surgery is the best option, the robot can provide trajectory guidance while the surgery is taking place, resulting in highly accurate placement of screws and cages. The new robot will be used to perform robotic-assisted spinal fusion procedures.

“This new spinal robot further enhances the high-quality, advanced orthopedic surgical options our expert teams provide,” says Mark Deno, CEO of Medical City North Hills. “Leading edge technology is another reason why so many in our community trust Medical City North Hills as the destination of choice for orthopedic care.”

As spinal surgery has evolved, more focus has been placed on minimally invasive techniques. Benefits of robot-assisted surgery vary, depending on the procedure performed and other factors, may include:

  • Smaller incisions
  • Reduced pain, discomfort and risk of infection
  • Quicker healing
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Reduced blood loss
  • Less scarring
  • Faster recovery time and return to normal activities
