Electrophysiology studies and cardiac treatment
An electrophysiology study (EP study) is a test used to determine if there is a problem with your heart beat and the best treatment for it. Using electrode catheters and computers, an EP study can generate electrocardiogram (EKG) tracings and electrical measurements to detect heart abnormalities.
In addition, EP studies can be used in certain procedures, such as pacemaker implantation and cardiac ablation.
We also offer a variety of cardiac treatment options for our patients, including:
- Device implants: Implants pacemakers, defibrillators or recorders
- Laser lead extractions: Removes old lead from an implanted pacemaker or defibrillator
- Cardiac ablations: Deactivates conduction pathways that cause abnormal heartbeats
- Cardioversions: Administers brief currents of electricity to stop an irregular heartbeat
- Tilt tables: Evaluates patients who have had fainting spells
Minimally invasive heart procedures
At the Medical City Fort Worth Structural Heart Clinic, we offer some of the most advanced minimally invasive cardiac procedures available. We perform several heart procedures using minimally invasive techniques, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
TAVR is the latest treatment for people diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis who are considered either high risk or too sick for valve replacement through open heart surgery. The minimally invasive TAVR procedure enables a new heart valve to be inserted into the patient's aorta via catheter.
In fact, our team was the first in Tarrant County to replace an aortic valve without open heart surgery, using the TAVR procedure.

Peripheral intervention
Peripheral intervention refers to any procedure that removes blood clots or plaque from the arteries in the legs, arms, neck or abdomen. As a Five-Star Recipient for Peripheral Vascular Bypass from Healthgrades™, we are committed to providing the highest quality care possible.
Medical City Fort Worth offers procedures such as peripheral artery stenting to allow for a less invasive alternative to traditional bypass surgery.
