GERD treatment

GERD affects one in five U.S. adults and occurs when stomach acid and bile flow back from the stomach into the esophagus. It can cause symptoms such as heartburn, chest pain, regurgitation, sore throat and a cough. If left untreated, GERD can lead to serious complications, including injury to the lining of the esophagus and esophageal cancers.

Conventional treatments for acid reflux symptoms, such as antacids and acid suppression drugs, don't work for everyone. If these treatments haven't worked for you, it may be time to explore an alternative.

Minimally invasive GERD treatment

Our specialists can also perform a minimally invasive procedure using a tiny, flexible band of titanium-encased magnets to support a weak esophageal sphincter. The magnetic attraction between the beads helps keep the weak sphincter closed to prevent reflux. In a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure that typically takes less than an hour, a general surgeon makes an implant around the sphincter just above the stomach.

The procedure is typically an outpatient procedure and patients can go home the same day.

Colorectal cancer care

If you have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer, you are not alone. The highly trained oncology team at Medical City Fort Worth is here to walk alongside you and offer patient-centered care. The digestive disease team and oncology team work together to create a treatment plan tailored to your needs and preferences.
