NICU

The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides critical care to newborns who are ill or premature. Many factors may lead to a newborn being admitted to the NICU, including low birth weight or complications during delivery. The NICU staff works closely with parents to develop a treatment plan for their newborn.

Level III NICU in Fort Worth TX

The Level III NICU at Medical City Alliance serves critically ill and premature infants who require specialized care. The unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by expert medical professionals.

All NICUs are designated between Level I and Level III, with Level III NICUs providing the highest level of care.

No parent wants to consider the possibility of their child being admitted into the NICU. However, one of the best things you can do for yourself is plan ahead. We encourage mothers with high-risk pregnancies, and even mothers with completely healthy pregnancies, to give birth at a hospital with the necessary equipment and professionals in case of an emergency.

What to expect in the NICU

We believe in keeping families together, including moms and newborns. We encourage bonding between parents and their newborns through sound, such as reading aloud, breast feeding (if possible) and touch. Nearly all infants, except the most ill, benefit from these moments of bonding.

Parents at our hospital also have access to Medical City Children’s Hospital network of specialists, lactation consultants for breastfeeding and a calm atmosphere for restful healing.

The multidisciplinary team at our NICU is committed to you and your baby's health. We offer the following:

  • Neonatologists
  • Neonatal nurses
  • Physical therapists
  • Respiratory therapists
  • Speech pathologists
  • Lactation consultants

TeleNICU video monitoring services

TeleNICU services provide a way for physicians at smaller hospital nurseries or lower level NICUs to consult with neonatologists at Medical City Alliance, which reduces the need for transfers and improves overall patient outcomes.

With TeleNICU video conferencing capabilities, neonatologists at Medical City Alliance are able to:

  • Consult with physicians in various locations
  • Conduct virtual examinations of patients
  • Determine whether a transfer is necessary
  • Discuss potential options directly with parents

NICU services can be expensive, especially when transport is needed from one hospital to another. TeleNICU helps reduce the cost of care for patients, especially for those living rural areas. Parents are also able to be near their infants without having to pay for lodging and transportation. In the event that a transport is necessary, TeleNICU provides enhanced communication and a greater level of comfort between specialists and patients’ families as transport is facilitated.
