NICU

The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides critical care to newborns who are ill or premature. Many factors may lead to a newborn being admitted to the NICU, including low birth weight or complications during delivery. The NICU staff works closely with parents to develop a treatment plan for their newborn.

What to expect in our NICU

We provide soft lighting and minimize noise in our NICU to create an environment that promotes rest and healing. The neonatal team works with parents to provide as much comfort and privacy as possible during this critical time in their child's life.

We believe in keeping moms and babies together, and strongly encourage parents to bond with their newborn in the NICU through touch, if possible, and by reading aloud.

TeleNICU services

Neonatologists at Medical City Lewisville are able to provide highly specialized consultative care for infants in other hospitals in the North Texas region that have partnered with Medical City Healthcare. This service, called TeleNICU, is done through video conferencing capabilities. Physicians at our hospital are able to virtually examine infant patients to determine whether a transfer to a hospital with a higher-level NICU is necessary.

TeleNICU helps lessen the cost of care for patients living outside the immediate area of Level III and Level IV NICUs and allows parents to be near their infants without having to pay for lodging and transportation. Additionally, TeleNICU reduces the need for transfers and improves overall patient outcomes.
