Visitor information
We realize that the love and affection provided by friends and family can often be the very best medicine for a child in the hospital. Therefore, we've structured our visiting hours to provide the maximum opportunity for visits.
Visiting children
For the safety of the patients and your "well" children, children under age 13 are not permitted to visit patients in the NICU and under the age of 3 are not permitted to visit patients in all other areas. All visiting children and siblings 3 years old and older must check in at the nurse's station for a health screen prior to entering the patient's room. Note that it is imperative that you notify a nurse immediately if a visiting child has been exposed to measles, mumps or chicken pox in the last three weeks.
Visiting parents and guardians
Parents and guardians are welcome 24 hours a day, whereas, siblings, friends and extended family visitation is extended between the hours of 9:00am – 9:00pm.
Within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and Congenital Heart Surgical Unit (CHSU), a maximum of two visitors are allowed at the bedside at the same time. Within the Pediatric Floors (6D and 6 North), sleeping accommodations will be provided for two parents/guardians.
Visiting during shift change
Medical City Children's Hospital utilizes bedside nursing report every shift which begins at 6:45am and 6:45pm. We invite parents/guardians to participate in Bedside Shift Report. Our nurses will come into your child's room, turn on the lights, and give important information to the parents/guardians and oncoming nurse.
We ask your cooperation with limiting hallway traffic during shift change.
Bedside Shift Report is between 6:45am – 7:30am and 6:45pm – 7:30pm. During this time, access to the unit is limited to parents and guardians. This is because the nurses are communicating with patients/parents, and they need their full attention with you, regarding your child. If you are in the room, we ask that you remain there, and if you are in the lobby, we request your understanding that entry to the unit will occur when change of shift report has concluded.
We look forward to partnering with you, in caring for your child.
