Medical City Weatherford celebrates 650th robotic surgery
650th robotic surgery milestone reached for the region's only robotic surgery program.
Weatherford, Texas — Medical City Weatherford celebrated the completion of its 650th robotic surgery, a significant milestone ahead of the program's second anniversary in December.
"This milestone highlights our commitment to excellence and innovation, as demonstrated by our expert physicians and compassionate care teams," states Sean Kamber, CEO of Medical City Weatherford. "We remain devoted to delivering patient-centric care, equipped with the latest tools to ensure leading-edge care for our community."
The first robotic procedure at the hospital was performed in December of 2021 and the program has steadily expanded ever since. Today, robotic systems are used for a variety of minimally invasive procedures at Medical City Weatherford including orthopedic, gynecological, gastrointestinal and urological surgeries.
Robotic technology allows surgeons to operate through small incisions, which can be roughly the size of a dime. Benefits, depending on the procedure performed and other factors, may include:
- Smaller incisions
- Reduced pain
- Less scarring
- Faster recovery
The technology additionally grants physicians advanced visual capabilities, heightened precision, and augmented control, all while offering a three-dimensional perspective within the body. Instruments possess the capacity to exceed the standard range of human hand movement through bending and rotation. They accurately translate the surgeon's actions into real-time, meticulous movements of the surgical instruments.
