First atrial fibrillation ablation procedure at Medical City Decatur
Medical City Decatur has achieved a significant milestone in cardiovascular care by successfully completing the first atrial fibrillation (AFib) ablation procedure in Wise County, expanding access to advanced heart care for the local community.
AFib, the most common type of irregular heartbeat, affects millions of Americans and can increase the risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. The goal of ablation is to eliminate or isolate the source of these abnormal signals. Until now, patients in Wise County often had to travel outside the area for advanced AFib treatment. With this new capability, patients can now receive lifesaving heart rhythm procedures close to home, supported by highly trained specialists and advanced technology available at Medical City Decatur.
The achievement also coincides with Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month in September, a national observance dedicated to increasing the understanding of AFib’s symptoms, risks and treatment options. Recognizing signs such as heart palpitations, shortness of breath or fatigue can help patients seek care earlier and reduce the risk of serious complications.
“Performing the first AFib procedure in Wise County reflects our commitment to system wide excellence and innovation close to home,” says Jason Wren, Medical City Decatur CEO. “Achieving this milestone is another reason Medical City Decatur is the destination of choice for healthcare excellence in Wise County.”
