Frisco, Texas — Patients may experience shorter recovery times and less pain with the addition of a new robotic surgical system at Medical City Frisco.

The “single-port” robotic system is a type of laparoscopic surgery that requires a single, small incision for the video camera and surgical tools. Standard laparoscopic surgery may require several ports of entry.

Advantages include:

  • Lower complication rates
  • Faster recovery
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Less blood loss

“This technology in the hands of our experienced surgeons provides patients with even more options for healthier tomorrows,” says Christina Mathis, CEO of Medical City Frisco. “Providing leading-edge technology is another reason so many patients turn to Medical City Frisco as the destination of choice for robotic surgery in our community and beyond.”

Featuring three multi-jointed wristed instruments and a 3D high-definition camera that moves like a human hand with superior range of motion, the robotic system allows surgeons to work around the target anatomy and avoid instrument collisions that can happen in narrow surgical workspaces. That may help provide a high degree of accuracy and precision to complex cases in more confined spaces.

The robotic system is one of only a few in use across Texas. It is used for qualifying head and neck surgeries at Medical City Frisco to eventually expand to cancer and urological procedures.
