Day treatment and partial hospitalization (PHP)
The partial hospitalization program (PHP) is designed for patients with a mental illness or chemical dependency diagnosis who need intensive treatment but do not meet criteria for inpatient psychiatric care at mental health hospitals. A PHP allows the patient to reside at home, but they commute to a treatment center up to seven days a week. Going home after treatment each day is a critical step towards independence.
This program includes group therapy and medication management with board-certified psychiatrists, nursing education and licensed therapists. Doctors and medical staff monitor medications routinely and make adjustments as needed. Our PHP takes place Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Lunch is provided.

Help for people returning to work after months at home
Dr. Jared Pickens, an economics professor at the University of North Texas, missed in-person teaching and engaging with students and colleagues. When pandemic restrictions were lifted and he returned to the classroom, he was concerned to find that things weren’t back to “normal.” As his anxiety increased, his job satisfaction decreased. Through the WorkReturns outpatient program at Medical City Green Oaks — a one-of-its-kind program in North Texas — Dr. Pickens found the tools, confidence and coping strategies to help him enjoy teaching again.

Electroconvulsive therapy
For patients who are unresponsive to traditional therapy and medication management, Medical City Green Oaks offers inpatient and outpatient electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) services, which has been proven as a safe and effective form of treatment for people with certain mental illnesses. For example, ECT is a treatment for severe, medication-resistant depression.
Before considering ECT, a full evaluation is required to ensure ECT is safe for the patient. This evaluation usually includes:
- A medical history
- A full physical exam
- A psychiatric assessment
- Basic blood tests
- An electrocardiogram (ECG) and chest X-ray to check heart and lung health
- Anesthesiologist review
