Commitment to patent safety and quality care
At Medical City Las Colinas, we take patient safety and your medical needs very seriously. Our hospital has joined the ranks of other HCA facilities in using technology to bring patient safety initiatives to the forefront of the delivery of care.
Electronic Medication Administration Records
Electronic Medication Administration Records (eMAR) is a key strategy in response to the growing consumer outcry and industry wide push for improved patient safety, particularly in the area of medication administration.
EMAR has been paired with bar coding technology in order to provide clinicians in the hospital setting with a patients complete medication history from admission to discharge. Applying this technology and utilizing something as simple as the patient’s armband has allowed Medical City Las Colinas to successfully reduce the number of errors caused in the medication administration process. Use of this system decreases the possibility of medication errors caused by omission, wrong dose, patient, time or medication. The system not only eliminates potential medication errors, it also eliminates billing errors, as the patient’s account is automatically charged at the time the medication and patient are scanned and administered.
MRSA awareness
A MRSA infection is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. The bacteria can affect the skin, blood, bones, or lungs. A person can either be infected or colonized with MRSA. When a person is infected, the bacteria produce symptoms. A MRSA infection is serious because the bacteria are resistant to many common antibiotics that are used to treat infections.
There are two types of MRSA infection: community-acquired and nosocomial. People who have community-acquired MRSA infection were infected outside of a hospital setting. While nosocomial MRSA infection occurs in a hospital setting. Due to the growing prevalence of MRSA in our community, and in hospitals today, Medical City Las Colinas has implemented an aggressive infection prevention protocol and campaign to reduce the spread of MRSA. The campaign includes proactive patient, visitor and staff education and screening/swabbing of high risk patient populations in order to prevent infections from occurring or spreading.
