Blood drive at Medical City Las Colinas
Fall drive encourages individuals to give blood and save a life during seasonal shortages
Medical City Las Colinas and the American Red Cross are hosting a blood drive on Thursday, Oct. 26. The drive will take place at Medical City Las Colinas, 6800 N. MacArthur Blvd., in classroom 3 of the Medical Office Building from 9:00am — 3:00pm.
Community members may sign up to donate here or by calling (800) RED-CROSS.
According to the American Red Cross, the national blood supply has fallen by about 25% since early August. Blood product distributions to hospitals are outpacing the number of donations coming in. Donors can help as many as three different people with just one donation. Individuals who may rely on blood products include trauma victims, cancer patients, mothers giving birth and premature babies, among others. Every blood type is needed.
“Blood products are crucial to many of our patients,” says Jessica O’Neal, CEO of Medical City Las Colinas. “We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross to host annual blood drives to provide additional support and further our mission that, above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.”
Potential donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. People who present to give blood should eat a nourishing meal before donating and must bring a photo ID. To protect Red Cross staff and donors' health and safety, it is important that individuals who do not feel well or believe they may be ill with COVID-19 postpone their blood donation.
