Diagnostic cancer exams and tests

To personalize your cancer treatments for the best outcome possible, your oncologist may order diagnostic tests, including:

Computerized tomography (CT) scans

CT exams show anatomical structures in the body. The advantage of a CT scan is its ability to take cross-sectional, 3D images of the body, including soft tissues, bones and blood vessels.

Positron emission tests (PETs)

A PET scan detects changes in cellular function, such as how your cells utilize nutrients like sugar and oxygen. Since these functional changes occur before physical changes occur, PET scans can provide information that enables physicians to diagnose early.

When oncologists combine PET and CT scans, they get a proper anatomical context of the body.

Stereotactic breast biopsy

A stereotactic breast biopsy uses mammography to help pinpoint the spot in the breast that needs to be removed, without requiring surgery.

Some of the benefits of a stereotactic breast biopsy include:

  • Faster resumption of daily activities
  • Immediate return to work
  • Minimal scarring
  • Reduced post-procedural pain
  • Shorter recovery time

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy attacks cells that rapidly divide or are fast-growing, including cancer cells. This treatment may have side effects since it also interferes with cell division and cell reproduction. We work with you and your family to make your chemotherapy experience as effective and as comfortable as possible.

Cancer rehabilitation services

Additional assistance may be needed to help you recover fully after completing your cancer treatment. Our physical and occupational therapists will work with your oncologist to develop a plan that improves your mobility, your function and your return to your usual routine.
