Medical City Denton  has been reaccredited as a Level II Trauma Center by the Texas Department of State Health Services, continuing to serve as the first and only hospital in Denton County to achieve the distinguished classification. Trauma II represents the second-highest level of trauma care and reflects Medical City Denton’s commitment to excellence always – every action, every patient, every time.

“Reaccreditation reflects the skill, dedication and compassion of our system of care – from first responders to trauma surgeons, nurses and support staff – who stand ready every day to deliver life-saving care when it’s needed most,” says Steven Edgar, CEO of Medical City Denton.

“From the emergency room and beyond, Medical City Denton is proud to serve as the healthcare leader in Denton north to Oklahoma for generations.”

Trauma II designation is awarded by the Texas Department of State Health Services  and involves an extensive survey process, including verification by the American College of Surgeons. The voluntary process requires a commitment to providing comprehensive regional care for every aspect of injury – from prevention through rehabilitation. Medical City Denton was designated a Level II Trauma facility in 2017.

According to the American Trauma Society,  a Level II Trauma Center provides:

  • 24-hour immediate coverage by general surgeons, as well as orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology and critical care.
  • Trauma prevention and continuing education programs for staff and the community.
  • A comprehensive quality assessment program.

In the past year, Medical City Denton demonstrated outstanding trauma care as the result of the Valley View tornado, a deadly roll-over vehicle accident near Alvord with multiple trauma injuries and many other life-threatening incidents.

In addition to being a Level II Trauma center, Medical City Denton is a Primary Stroke Center, an accredited Cycle 7 Chest Pain Center offering advanced open-heart surgery and is Magnet® recognized for nursing excellence.
