Medical City Children's Hospital expands lifesaving care with cardiac ICU
Dallas, Texas — Medical City Children’s Hospital officially opened its new $48 million, 33,000-square-foot pediatric cardiac intensive care unit (CICU), marking the completion of the hospital’s three-phase, $67 million Congenital Heart Center expansion.
The new CICU enhances the hospital’s ability to treat children with complex congenital heart conditions, from diagnosis and intervention to surgery and recovery, all within one program. The multi-year investment in advanced cardiac care also included a new cardiac catheterization laboratory and a pre- and post-surgical recovery unit.

The CICU includes:
- 25 additional beds dedicated for congenital heart patients
- Advanced medical technology to support critically ill pediatric heart patients
- Dedicated patient playroom designed to support healing
- A staff tranquility room to support the well-being of care teams
The expanded center will support highly specialized, around-the-clock care for children recovering from complex heart procedures or managing serious cardiac conditions. The enhanced environment also supports families during these critical moments.
