Urgent care is typically for patients who need medical attention for an issue that is a non-emergency but also can't wait for an appointment with a primary physician. Seek urgent care treatment for minor injuries and illnesses, such as sprains or first-degree burns.

Medical City Healthcare's urgent care facilities are available to patients of all ages. We are able to accommodate patients with or without an appointment.

Patients often visit an urgent care center for the following conditions:

• Sprains, strains and simple bone and joint injuries
• Cuts and scrapes that may need stitches

• Childhood illnesses (hand, foot, and mouth disease; fifth disease, chickenpox and whooping cough)

• Sore throats and strep throat (bacterial throat infection)
• Pink eye (conjunctivitis) and styes (bacterial infection on or inside eyelid)

In general, urgent care facilities are equipped to deal with the everyday illnesses and injuries your pediatrician or family doctor would treat. These same-day facilities have a team of registered nurses who can treat your child quickly and effectively if your pediatrician’s office is closed. Pediatric-ready ERs are equipped to handle more serious conditions such as broken bones or asthma attacks.

Urgent care facilities are not always equipped to handle more serious illnesses or injuries, so if your child needs advanced, pediatric emergency care, it may be better to visit the closest pediatric-ready ER.
