Inpatient physical rehabilitation

You may find you need specialized, skilled care to recover your strength and function after an injury, stroke, trauma, amputation, neurological disorder, orthopedic intervention or other health issue. Our Rehabilitation Institutes offer rehabilitative inpatient services for physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT) and speech therapy (ST), as well as speech-language pathology.

To help you reach optimum recovery, we provide comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services in a supportive environment. The goal is for you to restore independence and ensure a seamless transition to follow-up and outpatient care when it's time to go home.

Inpatient rehab admission requirements

Admission to our Rehabilitation Institute programs requires you to:

• Be medically stable
• Demonstrate the potential for improvement
• Have a physician's order
• Need an inpatient rehabilitation setting with 24-hour care
• Need at least two skilled rehabilitation services
• Participate in at least 15 hours of therapy a week, with individualized therapy plans including:
  • Fifteen hours of therapy over seven days
  • Three hours of therapy a day for five days

Inpatient physical therapy may be beneficial if:

• You've been hurt. Whether you've been involved in a sports injury, an automobile accident or even a fall, physical therapy can treat these and other injuries, even after a broken bone has healed.
• You've had surgery. Many surgical procedures can affect muscles, and you may need to rebuild them. Other surgeries can result in physical discomfort. Therapy can help you get stronger and move past the pain.
• You've had a stroke. After a cerebrovascular accident (stroke), your muscles may not move the way they did before. A physical therapist can help you with range of motion and strengthening exercises and offer advice for doing everyday activities.
• You have a spine condition. If you have back pain or a damaged spine, physical therapy can be helpful. Through stretches and adjustments, you may be able to take the pressure off the damaged nerves or muscles.

Occupational therapy

Speech therapy

Speech therapy is helpful if you have communication problems or a speech disorder. Performed by speech-language pathologists, speech therapy techniques are used to improve communication. We offer:

• Modified barium swallow studies
