Dallas, Texas — As North Texas prepares for an influx of domestic and international visitors, Medical City Healthcare is hosting 28 blood drives in partnership with the American Red Cross North Texas Region and Carter BloodCare. The initiative is designed to strengthen the region’s blood supply ahead of increased demand driven by both seasonal trends and the anticipated surge in travelers for the international soccer tournament in North Texas.

Summer months historically bring critical blood shortages nationwide. Vacations and summer activities reduce the number of donors, while trauma cases often increase around holidays and large-scale events. School closures further limit opportunities for community blood drives—placing additional strain on local inventories at a time when demand is expected to rise.

“With more travelers expected in North Texas this summer, it’s especially important that we are prepared to meet the medical needs of visitors, along with the people who call this community home,” says Allen Harrison, president of Medical City Healthcare. “Just as our hospitals never close, the need for lifesaving blood is constant. We encourage our communities to join Medical City Healthcare, the Red Cross and Carter BloodCare to help ensure we are ready to save lives when it matters most.”

According to the Red Cross, type O blood and platelet donors are essential right now to meet the needs of hospitals. Volunteer blood donors can improve a patient’s recovery or save their life, especially accident victims who may require many blood units through transfusions.

Healthy donors over the age of 16 can sign up for blood drives at the locations and times below.

"Strengthening community capacity has always been central to our mission," says Linda Braddy, CEO of the American Red Cross North Texas Region. "We're grateful to Medical City Healthcare for its continued commitment to collecting lifesaving blood and improving health outcomes for patients in need. That support is especially critical this summer, as we anticipate an influx of visitors and soccer fans, and know blood supplies are often strained during the summer months."
