DALLAS  Medical City Healthcare colleagues recently wrapped up their third annual “Summer of Service” initiative, volunteering hundreds of hours for charitable organizations across North Texas to help address community needs.

“At Medical City Healthcare, we strive to provide not only the quality healthcare that our patients deserve but also to show up to address needs in the communities we serve,” says Allen Harrison, president of Medical City Healthcare. “We are proud to care for our neighbors like family outside the walls of our hospitals – just as we do for them inside our facilities.”

Volunteers from at least 18 Medical City Healthcare facilities and offices organized and staffed in-person volunteer opportunities for a variety of charitable organizations from May through September:

  • Medical City Alliance partnered with the Keller Independent School District to help support 230 school participation physicals at the district’s annual Back to School Bash.
  • Medical City Arlington’s Nursing Support Council conducted a school supply drive for Mission Arlington.
  • Medical City Dallas and Medical City Children’s Hospital colleagues served lunch to families at the Ronald McDonald House.
  • Medical City Decatur colleagues helped set up teachers’ rooms for the “Meet the Teacher” event and helped welcome students for the first day of school at Decatur ISD.
  • Medical City Denton and Medical City Argyle colleagues placed American flags for Memorial Day on veterans’ graves at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
  • Medical City Fort Worth and Medical City Weatherford colleagues sorted food at the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
  • Medical City Frisco, Medical City Plano and Medical City Sachse colleagues assembled food care packages for the Storehouse Community Center in Collin County.
  • Medical City Las Colinas colleagues volunteered in the warehouse of Community Partners of Dallas for its school supply drive.
  • Medical City Lewisville colleagues provided back-to-school shopping support and assisted with the food pantry at Christian Community Action, which helps feed, educate and heal people in need.
  • Medical City McKinney colleagues volunteered at Streetside Showers, an organization that provides mobile hot showers for McKinney’s unhoused population.
  • Medical City North Hills colleagues helped set up for the 6 Stones Operation Back 2 School event, which provided students with a new backpack and school supplies.
  • Colleagues from several Medical City Healthcare hospitals teamed up with the American Heart Association to educate over 300 Texas Rangers fans during the Sept. 4 game against the New York Yankees. Fans practiced Hands-Only CPR and learned about the risks and warning signs associated with heart disease and stroke.
  • Medical City Healthcare’s division office partnered with the American Red Cross North Texas Region to prepare toiletry bags for a Homeless Veterans Stand Down, organized to help provide food, shelter and other services.
  • Medical City Healthcare’s physician services group worked with Community Partners of Dallas to collect school supplies and assemble backpacks.

As part of the Summer of Service initiative, colleagues also earned a chance to win $200 for their favorite charity. Medical City Healthcare annually supports 350+ charities through donations and volunteering, logging thousands of community volunteer hours and supporting 34+ chambers of commerce. Medical City Healthcare and the HCA Healthcare Foundation have donated millions of dollars to community organizations and initiatives.
