Compassionate Care after the Crash

A year after his heart stopped beating, Steve Glenn walked back into Medical City Decatur to reunite and thank the care team who saved his life.

Almost a year ago, the 61-year-old from Bridgeport, Texas remembered feeling lightheaded and nauseated and decided to pull his vehicle over so he could rest. The next thing he remembers is waking up in a ditch after rolling his car over with airbags deployed. This wasn't the first time Steve had experienced these issues while driving; he had two other accidents earlier in the year, experiencing the same symptoms.

After regaining consciousness, Steve called 911. When emergency services (EMS) arrived, Steve complained of chest pain that was radiating down his left arm. The EMS team transported Steve to Medical City Decatur.

Steve went into cardiac arrest several times when he was in the emergency room. His expert heart care team says the timing of his car accident may have been fortunate because he was in the hospital when he experienced a potentially fatal heart attack.

Shortly after Steve's heart attack, physicians placed stents in his heart to improve circulation to his heart. To get back to normal activities and life, Steve spent a couple of weeks in the hospital for cardiac rehabilitation.

Steve urges others to check out even minor health symptoms seriously and to get regular check-ups.
