Medical City Lewisville is celebrating a half-century of healthcare excellence with a special reception on April 16 honoring colleagues, community leaders and partners who have helped shape the hospital’s legacy.

To commemorate the milestone, the hospital will present a $25,000 donation to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County, supporting healthy lifestyles and workforce readiness.

The City of Lewisville will also present an official proclamation recognizing 50 years of life-saving care and community partnership. As part of the celebration, attendees will contribute memories and advice to future caregivers that will be sealed in a Medical City Lewisville time capsule.

“We are proud to celebrate the remarkable history of our hospital and the people who have made healthcare excellence possible,” says John Walker, CEO of Medical City Lewisville. “For five decades, our colleagues and skilled medical staff have been committed to improving care delivery across generations, caring for the community like family. We are honored to mark this milestone by continuing our support of organizations like the Boys and Girls Clubs which inspires young people to reach their full potential.”

Founded in 1976 as Lewisville Memorial Hospital, the facility began as a 100-bed hospital with a 24-hour emergency room and 96,000 square feet of space. Since then, the hospital has expanded significantly in size, technology and services to meet the needs of one of North Texas’ fastest-growing communities.

Today, Medical City Lewisville is a 191-bed acute care hospital and Level III Trauma Center, Level III NICU and Level III Maternal Designated Facility, providing advanced medical services and delivering more than 2,000 babies each year.

Five Decades of Growth and Innovation

Over the past 50 years, Medical City Lewisville has continued to evolve, adding advanced programs, expanding facilities and introducing innovative technologies, including:

  • 1987: HCA Healthcare acquired Lewisville Memorial Hospital, strengthening resources and capabilities.
  • 1988: Installation of the hospital’s first MRI, advancing diagnostic imaging.
  • 1990: Expansion of the intensive care unit, increasing capacity and improving patient care.
  • 2003: Opening of the patient tower, including a 16-bed NICU and expanded surgical services.
  • 2014: Introduction of robotic-assisted surgery.
  • 2016: Rebranding as Medical City Lewisville, aligning with the Medical City Healthcare system of care.
  • 2022: Renovation of the mother-baby unit and recognition as DFWChild Magazine winner of Best Hospital to Have a Baby in Denton Co. for the first time.
  • 2023: Added cardiac ablation capabilities.
  • 2024: NICU renovation and expansion, increasing NICU capacity to 21 beds.
  • 2025: Opening of a hybrid operating room, expansion of surgical capacity, acquisition of Medical City ER Cross Timbers, and major hospital exterior renovation.

From delivering 100 babies in its second year to caring for thousands of patients annually, Medical City Lewisville continues to advance care through innovation, compassion and a deep commitment to the communities it serves.

“Every milestone represents the dedication of generations of caregivers and physicians,” Walker says. “As we celebrate our past, we remain focused on the future — continuing to expand access, advance technology and provide exceptional care for our patients and families.”
