Nurse Practitioner Joma Okereke speaks with Marvin Roe.

When 62‑year‑old Marvin Roe arrived at Medical City Heart Hospital last year, he was running out of options. Advanced heart failure had left him weak, struggling to breathe and in and out of emergency rooms. A heart attack and years of living with AFib had severely weakened his heart muscle, making even simple tasks feel impossible.

Today, Marvin is back to enjoying his life thanks to the specialized outpatient treatment he receives at the Institute for Advanced Cardiac Care at Medical City Heart Hospital.

“I just wanted a good quality of life, to be able to get up without struggling to breathe,” Roe says. “The heart failure specialists at Medical City Heart Hospital brought me back from nearly dying to living my normal life again.”

Marvin’s story is one of many that underscore why the hospital recently earned Heart Failure Accreditation with Outpatient Services from the American College of Cardiology, the only hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth to have this distinction.

Accredited hospitals demonstrate excellence in treating acute heart failure and providing coordinated outpatient clinics for post‑discharge care. This approach ensures a smooth transition from hospital to home, improves patient education, reduces readmissions and supports long‑term disease management.

Heart failure is a chronic condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs, often causing fatigue, shortness of breath and fluid retention. With more than 6 million Americans living with heart failure, advanced outpatient programs like the one at Medical City Heart Hospital are vital to improving survival and quality of life.

“Earning this accreditation reinforces why we are the destination of choice for healthcare excellence and compassionate, patient‑centered cardiac care,” says Andrea Daniels, CEO of Medical City Heart Hospital. “Our expert specialists work tirelessly to deliver advanced treatments, education and ongoing support, empowering patients to thrive well beyond their hospital stay.”
